I found a fossil petal in the window frame in the morning sunlight.
A trace of spring, forgotten after the weekend’s cleaning.
The cherry blossoms bloom earlier each year,
Restless sunlight sends the room’s temperature swinging,
and evening downpours stir the city
Yes, misaligned April is the cruellest month.
Yet its cruelty never stays still.
I walk with my dog beneath heat-struck leaves.
The fossil is forgotten between the pages.
I hear voices in a distant tongue behind me.
