Dean Rader
Dean Rader has authored or co-authored twelve books. His debut collection of poems, Works & Days, won the 2010 T. S. Eliot Poetry Prize, was a finalist for the Bush Memorial Prize and won the Texas Institute of Letters Poetry Prize. His 2014 collection Landscape Portrait Figure Form was named by The Barnes & Noble Review as a Best Poetry Book. Recent poems have appeared in Best American Poetry, POETRY, Ploughshares, Kenyon Review, Southern Review, Harvard Review, Prairie Schooner, New England Review, Best of the Net, The New York Times, and many others. Dean writes and reviews regularly for The San Francisco Chronicle, The Huffington Post, BOMB, and Ploughshares. In 2020, he was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Balakian Award for Excellence in Reviewing. His next collection of poems, Before the Borderless: Dialogues with the Art of Cy Twombly, will feature Rader’s poems alongside corresponding images of Twombly. Rader’s writing has been supported by fellowships from Princeton University, Harvard University, the MacDowell Foundation, and the John R. Solomon Guggenheim Foundation, where, in 2019, he was a Fellow in Poetry. He is a professor at the University of San Francisco.
